The rare biopic (music biopic even) that’s legitimately enjoyable! Straight Outta Compton is bursting with energy, has a solid cast, chugs along nicely, has a great soundtrack (of course), and feels relevant to the time in which it’s been released. The film is clearly not an accurate recreation of reality, and obviously there’s vested interest towards portraying certain members more positively than others, but as a film in its own right, it succeeds, and is a good time. There could have been a better, more interesting, more accurate movie made here, but the movie we got is still good. The music and the timeliness are the greatest strengths of the film.
I give it three mixtapes, and a marketing meme.
