A charming, actually funny romantic comedy. Bill Hader is good-natured and very funny here, Amy Schumer really puts her unique creative voice to the forefront, and both John Cena and LeBron James give very memorable, surprisingly funny performances in their small roles.
It’s not a revolutionary take on the genre, but it’s self-aware enough to feel fairly fresh. It’s very modern Hollywood comedy in having multiple scenes where it’s clear the actors are just riffing off each other, and as is typical for movies that do that, some of the improv scenes work really well, and some don’t.
It’s nothing ambitious, but I enjoyed my time with it.
I give it two and a half basketballs, and an issue of S’Nuff.
