Insomnia (2002)

This one just didn’t come together for me. Nolan assembles a fantastic cast, and the tone is suitably grim, stressful, and evocative of insomnia, but I just found this so much less compelling than his other films.

I rather when he aims high and perhaps doesn’t land (Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises, etc.) to when he aims low and just remakes an already existing film. It’s too contrived, and not in the puzzle-box way that leads to Nolan making some grand revelation, just in the sense that the plot is overtly mechanical.

I give it two .38s, and a day of endless light.
