X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

For the first third or so, I was quite enjoying this. The mutant cure was, finally, an actual new idea in the series. The new characters seemed interesting enough. I was fairly invested. But the film got crazier and dumber as it went on, and I’d checked out by the ending.

The story is needlessly convoluted, characters come and go without rhyme or reason, the dialogue lacks the snap of the first two films, it’s overstuffed, it’s underdeveloped, it’s just a mediocre blockbuster. It’s not godawful, but it lacks the competency of the first two films, as well as any worthwhile ambition to excuse its flaws.

I give it one and a half juggernauts, and a spandex suit.
