My Life as a Zucchini (2016)

A very moving animated film. So touching, so earnest. The animation was so sweet too.

I was really taken aback at how serious and mature the film was, as it appeared ostensibly to be a children’s film – it certainly works fine as a children’s film, I imagine, but it doesn’t talk down to any children watching, and engages with deeper story material than I’d have expected from this sort of animated film. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I’m really, really impressed with this movie honestly. A very charming, but also serious, touching, but also funny, look at difficult situations in life around family, death, bullying, friendship, and plenty of other issues relatable not just to kids the age of the characters in the film, but adults too. I give it three and a half “courgettes” and a snowball.
